what color scheme should i use and is there anyway to make a banner for the header. like little details like that is what i need help on.

Pastel pinks, white, cream, etc. Cute little things. Pixels are good (some can be found here http://themecandy.tumblr.com/myfavicons) Google "tumblr banner maker" and you should find some banner generators.
