Because its easier to post news, and articles. Also its easier to backup, it has search engine and other useful things.

In most cases CMSs, like blog engines are primarily to reduce the programming requirements of the webmater, and to make content additions more easily done. There often is more processor and bandwidth overhead in CMS systems due to their generating pages on the fly, unlike 'static' html sites.
