plz help me to understand my internet plan? - Sandy - 04-08-2014 08:13 PM when connect my laptop to net it shows 100.00 Mps speed but when i test my internet speed on net it shows download speed of 1.62 Mps . what is this. how can these 2 speeds can differ ? thanks in advance - Surya - 04-08-2014 08:20 PM the 100 Mbps is the speed between the modem and laptop and the 1.62 Mbps is speed between the modem and internet...to understand this read this when you open a webpage first your laptop send question in digital signal with a speed of 100 Mbps..then your modem translates this into analog signals and sends to internet with a speed of 1.62 Mbps.... - karl - 04-08-2014 08:23 PM The 100 is the speed of your Lan "local area network" the 1.62 is what your paying your ISP "internet service provider" if you where just streaming....likw say a movie on another computer in your home....it would be on the 100mb speed btw: your 1.62 mg internet plan is around 1700kbps ....so your probably on a 15mg plan or around it.or on a lower one that has speed burst tech, like Comcast does. Comcast has a 30,50,and a 100mg speed plan....but the 100mb is pretty expensive....the 25-30mg plan is very nice bank for buck.....but if they drop the price on faster then get it oh yea...and your router is a 100mb.....if you upgrade make sure it is a gigabit Lan (1000) - ChOcoLaTe HoUse® - 04-08-2014 08:32 PM 100Mbps is the bandwidth (is like the max speed with which data can transfer through the cables) whereas 1.62Mbps is the actual Download speed of ur Plan. [Consider a highway where the max speed-limit is 100kmph...... but do all Cars & vehicles travel with 100kmph on the road ??? No, because some vehicles run faster than others..... & some slower. It's the same with Internet Plans] |
