I want to use the "white border/background" that Instagram users use to make their landscape photos fit without having to crop them but I have no idea how to do so in Facebook.
I don't have Instagram or Photoshop, so I hope to get simpler answers. Thanks!

MS Paint can resize and crop images easily. Select the area and choose "crop". Then check properties under the file menu to see the exact size of your image.
