Is there any way to rely less on the internet for information? - littlescale665 - 04-08-2014 08:42 PM

I love having vast amounts of information at my fingertips but I feel like I'm becoming too dependent on it. Please, no jokes about going back to school. Thanks!

The internet has re-wired our brains. Now, instead of learning things, we are habitually learning where to look to find the information. So, instead of knowing how to change the oil, we know what website to find the instructions on how to change the oil.
Being a life-long learner is what you want to be, rather than a mental file clerk.

You literally have to stop using search engines and wiki sites, because you have to trigger your memory again. I recognize your problem, but that's the future we're heading into.

We tend NOT to learn from the Internet. It is too easy to look something up every time we need to see it. Get out, go to a library for some of your research, or buy books. The extra effort will generate more concentration. And more chance of actually learning. And the fresh air and exercise is good for you.
