Can an employer make you advertise for them through your facebook? - Vince Nowaczyk - 04-08-2014 08:59 PM

I work is a restaurant/bar and we have to advertise things like telling people to come visit us at the restaurant, drink specials of the day, special events we are having, etc. by posting status about it on our own personal facebook pages. Are they allowed to do this?

No, they are not. Facebook is a personally used site, and legally you are entitled to your own account. If they encourage you to, that's one thing-- but making you advertise for them is illegal. They can setup their own FB page, but forcing you to advertise for them on your own personal account is not allowed and is considered Harassment in violation of the BBB (Better Business Bureau). You do not have to post anything you don't to.

Only if your terms of employment say so
