BOTH not good. Due to High competition keyword is difficult to do and the effection of low competition is not good.

Low competition is good if you have a reasonable demand on that keyword. I would suggest about 3000-4000 searches per month.

High competition is harder to rank. Low competition is easier but usually less profitable.

I suggest you take a low competition keyword if the local searches are good for that particular keyword/keyphrase so that you can rank better for it. If the keyword has high competition and search are less then i guest you check the popularity of that keyword in google trends which will give you variable of that keyword people search for. based on that you can select the keyword. Its always referable to go for medium/low competition keyword with high searches.
