Drop in Traffic after site redesign and relaunch? - Costmo - 04-08-2014 09:12 PM

I have a site: http://www.kgstiles.com and I relaunched it with a new design a week and a half ago. Google traffic cut in half immediately. The new site is a wordpress site and I have since uploaded all of the old pages and 301 redirected them to the new pages and submitted my sitemap. After google had indexed the whole thing, my traffic was still down. At this point I felt hopeless. I couldn't figure out why traffic was so low. I then realized that the sitemap only contained the new pages, so last night I promptly added the old pages (with redirects) to the sitemap and resubmitted it. Will this help? It's kind of a last resort, because I feel like even if the old pages hadn't been re-indexed, they would still be showing up in search results and when someone clicked on a link to one, it would just redirect them to the new page so does that even matter??

I'm desperate. Any help is appreciated!

Hi Costmo,

No neeed to feel desperate at the moment. It takes time for Search Engines to pick up the 301 redirect authorities. It has only been a week and a half.

Furthermore, I believe I read somewhere that although 301 redirects to transfer authority and link juice; however, sometimes it doesn't carry ALL link juice. Some may be lost. I may be wrong.

As for Sitemap resubmit, it also takes a while for bots to recrawl all the pages you've submited.

All in all, be patient. SEO takes time. Furthermore, if you haven't done any thing black hat, it should be fine. I believe it is just some lag in the crawling process of the 301 redirects.
