Internet suddenly sped up? - Wbtb - 04-08-2014 09:20 PM
Around at the beginning of 2014... I noticed a huge speed boost in my downloads and thought that I was just getting lucky or something... my old download speed used to be around 3.75MB/s, which was fine, more than enough... I believe it's been like that for at least the past year, lets say (most likely A LOT longer- but for example).
But I just did a long overdue speedtest out of curiosity, and the download speed turned out to be 9.75MB/s (which I assume has been like for a while now). It's not a fluke by the way, I've tested it many times before and it stayed around 3.75 (max 4)... and now I've gotten 9.75 (max 10.25). This is without any network usage by anything else either. My upload rate stayed around the same, I don't exactly remember what it was, but it didn't look like a huge boost. Not sure if that's relevant. Ping is 26ms. I've been using the same test location and the same website for a while so that's out of the picture.
Can anyone explain to me why this sudden surge of speed? I haven't changed my internet service provider or my internet plan and I'm currently with Time Warner Cable. Any useful feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks for reading.
Trust me, I love this surge of speed, but I'm honestly curious as to why it has happened.
Actually, the speed test says Mbps, not MBps.
It's around 9.75Mbps to 11Mbps. Steady around there, if it matters. Usually 9.75-9.80.
Like I said, I'm not complaining, I like it
but I'm curious...

Check your bill at the end of the month, if its not higher, someone made a mistake, enjoy it while you can.
