Can I name my domain similar to a major site/company? - Stephon - 04-08-2014 09:27 PM

...like could I choose http://www.boeingparts.com.

I know I can't name a business of mine like the above, but how about a domain? Will these fat cats come after me, lol?

Please "know" before you answer instead of guessing; because I might take your guess as affirmationSmile.

yahoofriends.com is already taken.

I believe incorporating the entire name is considered a trademark violation, apparently Ebay automatically sends cease and desist notices to any new name incorporating Ebay. Mis-spelling like Floogle is probably more acceptable, as long as your not misrepresenting yourself like the countless counterfeit sites out there.

Unlike the early days of the internet when cab drivers were speculating in names, buying Pepsi.com and holding it hostage, "cyber squatting" laws have been put in place to restrict such activity playing off an established business name.

No you can't name your domain similar to a major site or company. Under Anti-cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act doing so will surely create a domain name dispute.
