some questions about Cable and DSL internet? - Shayan - 04-08-2014 09:27 PM

does your cable internet speed have to do anything with the distance to the provider? how about your DSL internet?

which one do you recommend, Cable or DSL?

what do you think are the best ISP ( internet service provider ) in America?

THANKS.

it doesn't matter what kind of connection you have.. but make sure you are getting the right speed which your ISP promises to provide you..

Some first answer, eh?

No, cable internet speed doesn't depend on distance.

For DSL, it's yes & no. Where distance IS important is the distance from your house to the "switch". If you're within a certain distance, the speed is the same.

For cable, if your "node" (group of other users) is busy, your connection can slow. I have never seen this.
For DSL, your speed doesn't change.

Personally, I vote for cable. You can get a bundle if you also get TV cable service.

Good & bad first depends on where you are. That's what determines your options. You may only have the choice of a couple of ISPs. I've had Roadrunner and Time Warner, both pretty good.

Speed wise, cable can blow DSL out of the water. I average around 8-10Mbs. Occasionally, I see 20.

Cable broadband goes through TV network.

DSL broadband works on a active telephone line.
