Can the school IT track my app usage if i connect to the school wifi? - JUTXx - 04-08-2014 09:28 PM

If i connect to my school wifi and use apps like instagram, facebook or vine, can the IT department in my school track it down? I know that they are able to track safari and other web browsers but I'm not sure about the apps.

Depends. If they have the software installed (since they can track safari/web browsers, it sounds like they do have it), then yes, they can.

Essentially, yeah, they have complete view of it. And in case you ask, no, it's not illegal or an invasion of privacy. Their internet, they do what they want with it.

They can track any and all data coming in and going out.

they can even tell you approximately where you were standing when you used the app. All that information is in the firewall logs.

They probably won't bother you. But yes, they essentially see everything coming in and out!

Of course, anytime you connect to someone else's system they can track whatever they want.
