I've been really struggling with YouTube seo and am starting to wonder if there are some special techniques I need to know to get more views and likes of my videos?
If anyone has some information they can offer on this I would be really grateful.

Link to all social areas such as Twitter, Facebook, g+1. Send onto friends via email hoping they will send on. Networking is the best way to get something out there. Also as one comment suggested have a quirky title, something funny or relevant to your YouTube seo. It's endless, try putting in social networking website on yahoo search.Good luck

First You need to do good on page level of optimization for your website then you must go to share your video on social media networks like Facebook,Twitter, Google+, Mashable ,Digg etc..... See just understand that we don’t need any fake views so you can waiting for some time to get more views,if your videos are worth,we can get it result as soon.

Optimize your video with relevant keywords and their synonyms, write a good summarize description which defines your video and share it with your all social media friends.

Since Google bought YouTube, search results for video marketing have changed rapidly.
I had many videos on the first page of Google but am now focusing on other ways .. which are too many things to list so you'll have to search this info a bit more in depth.
I learned basic SEO tactics from a book I got on Amazon called "SEO Organics."
Start from there and you'll figure out more as you go.

Links to all social sites with your Youtube channel. Create unique, knowledgeable and interesting video with description. It will definitely boost your videos views.
