The company I work at is thinking about advertising on Baidu. I don't know if it's better to go through the hassle on our own or just hire someone to it for us.
Do your companies do business in China? How do they advertise?

advertising system is similar to Google AdWords,Pay fee according to the effect,this means that you should payment Baidu when your ads are clicked.

It is not easy for a non-chinese business to advertise on Baidu. The advertising platform of Baidu only has Chinese language interface.
Your best choice would be to use some 3rd party help.
I would suggest that you use:
A. http://www.ac-baidu.com or
B. http://www.glogou.com
Particularly, Glogou inc developed the world 1st and only English interface for Baidu Ad platform,
