Sites with good traffic, (thousands of visitors a week) can be paid to write 'sponsored' posts endorsing a product, or may let a guest author post an article for a fee, a site can sell and manage banner ad space directly or use a broker to handle the headaches, such services include BuySellAds.com, Buyads.com or BlogAds.com, of course affiliate links to products paying a commission for any resulting sales are quite common as well, and generally have a larger earning potential than renting ad space.

Are you talking about information websites?

There are different ways to earn from advertising:

- advertising networks (such as BurstMedia and Adsense)
- text link ads
- contextual ads (such as those inline text advertising by Kontera)

Subscription model - you charge money for access to members-only premium content of your site. Wall Street Journal uses this model charging for subscription

Content sale = sell access to individual pieces of your content

Ebook sale = combine your content into an ebook and sell it

Content syndication = get paid for publishing your content to other sites

Book publishing = take your ebooks a notch higher and then package them into books and sell them

Videos = package your content into a video, and join Youtube Partners Program to show ads and earn money from your videos
