New web hosting nameserver confusion? - john - 04-10-2014 01:09 PM

I would like to move to a new host with the current domain I own which is configured to my current web hosts.

However, I would like to move to a new web hosting provider with a reseller.

If these new web hosts are asking me to input a new namesever, and I put 'server1.mycurrentdomain.com', once the my domain propagates to the new web hosting server, will that nameserver actually work?

Hello,
If you put server1.mycurrentdomain.com it will not work, you need to add name servers provided by your new hosting.

Otherwise, you need to register new private name servers like ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com and than these name servers will work.

You can contact your new host and they can help you with this. Hope it helped.

If you're configuring your own reseller DNS server, you will have to add the record from domain registrar site or else it will not work. If you just registered a seperate hosting service via reseller site, you need to confirm the dns setting with their support.
