Where do you get dogs? - A - 04-11-2014 08:52 AM

My boyfriend and i want to buy a dog. A golden retriever to be exact and we were wondering how we can find a good dog breeders in the north east of england??

The first places to visit are Champdogs / Kennel Club / Breed clubs. Some facebook groups have breed judges / show / breeders within them. Join and ask.

But research everything you can first.

Find a breeder who really knows the breed well, breeds for temperament and type, meaning the good temperament as well as a correct body for the breed... one that health screens and one that takes back and supports for life.

Adopt don't shop....go to a shelter.

You need to research the web first also contact the KC because they will advise you where to buy a pedigree puppy. You get what you pay for a cheap pup could cost a fortune in vet fees. Your breed of dog what you are after is lovely they shed hair a lot therefore I hope you really know about this lovely breed. Do not buy from advertisements ask your vets who would help you.
My dog was imported he's a GSD we decided after 6 months searching where and who to buy him from we have not been let down.
I hope you get your puppy and it has a long life with your family.

Go to the shelter first then if you can't find any there after waiting and checking back go to a responsible breeder

shelters are cheaper and the dogs there need homes, but if you want a purebred completely healthy dog, go to a pet store. They are 2-3 times more expensive than a shelter though.

We got our Labrador on the Kennel Club Breeders website, but that's for a puppy. You can register with local dog shelters and ask them to call you when a Golden Retriever comes up, or you get in contact with a society for Golden Retrievers (there is a Northumbria Club) and they'll have KC registered adult dogs that need new homes.
