How to use hard wired internet for cell phone internet use ( no computer)? - kwazyca - 04-12-2014 09:06 AM

Okay, so working on camp site in Alberta with just a cell phone for internet but I don't want to go over my data allowance. My room is hard wired for Ethernet cable use, so is there a wireless router or something I can just plug into the Ethernet port and not require a computer to set it up/run it?

If you brought a wireless router with you plugging it up and connecting your phone to it through WiFi should make things work just fine. If you don't have one of those there is one other option.

If your phone is android it's possible that a USB Ethernet adapter will work with it. The base Android operating system includes support for most general hardware. However you would need both the Ethernet adapter and a female USB to micro USB adapter. Something you're probably not going to find around a campsite.

If you can find a place with free WiFi I'd suggest going there, and in the future you may want to consider purchasing a portable wireless router. http://www.amazon.com/802-11b-Portable-Wireless-Router-WL-330N/dp/B007GFYHPG
