Hello, I have recentley gone self employed and I have had thousands of flyers printed. Am I allowed to knock doors to advertise? Not to do any pressure sales or anything sinister but more to introduce my self and my companies services. If this is legal, what is the most effective way to open the conversation? Thanks everyone.

You don't need a licence in the UK. Yes it is legal, but we do get fed up of people knocking on our doors. Best just to put the flyers through the letter box. Ignore the USA answers, they are on a different planet.

Knocking on doors is a guaranteed way to irritate people. You're far better off just putting the flyers through letterboxes. The only reason to knock on doors is to pressure sell, which you already say you don't want to do
