internet speed depend on network service provider. Here laptop brand or laptop / desktop is not issue.
another is web browser is important in speed.
finally I say contact your internet service provider for internet speed.
For doing video chat minimum 2.0 Mbps speed is required....

I think 5 mbps to 7 mbps speed is more then enough to your work and specially for video chat.......
