Is it free to create a website on Wordpress? - Sw - 04-14-2014 06:10 PM

I am considering starting a small business and I would like to create a website for it.

For an e-commerce website, you must have a self-hosted website(ie your own registered domain name & hosted) and then install the free Wordpress script. If you try to use a site on Wordpress.com for e-commerce purposes, you're likely to break their T&Cs.

You can register a domain name for around US$9.00/10.00 per year and good hosting say from Hostgator from US$4.00 per month. Hostgator hosting includes the free Wordpress script and use one of the free e-commerce plugins such as WP-eCommerce together with a free theme(there are thousands). There are lots of free ebooks & videos to help you install & configure Wordpress.

Wordpress allows you to create either a paid site, or a free site. The bad part of creating a free site is that it won't be entirely yours, and it can be taken down any time without question.

Buy your web hosting account, and your domain name no matter what. If you are starting a business then you will want to invest in your own property. That's what it will be, yours and only yours. Don't go for any free sites on the internet.
