Is there a website that can take a short URL and tell you where is goes to without actually going there? - Barkley Hound - 04-15-2014 03:06 AM

Short URLs like bit.ly/5g34Sd are used all over the place. The only problem is that I assume it would be a simple matter to use one to hide a referral code or lead to a dangerous site. It there a site that will take the short URL and tell you where it really goes without going there?
Oops. IT GOES TO not IS GOES TO

Well, a quick google search for "expanded url" brings up:

http://longurl.org/expand

Which appears to do the job.

What's behind that short link? Try Unfurl.com, this will let you see how trustworthy the short URL is.
http://unfurlr.com/

If it's a short url that was created by google as seen below. Then you can check the analytics by putting .info after the short URL in the web browser. IE http://goo.gl/otXuMl.info

I use the google shortener and analytics to see who visits my webpage.

http://goo.gl/otXuMl is my webpage by the way.

Cheers,
