I currently am working for Southern Oregon University, a small 4-year college in Ashland, Oregon. We are looking to use Facebook to advertise our college to perspective transfer students. Our target audience are community college students living in Northern California.

If you want to place advertisements the best you can do is to create a Facebook page, also known as fan page because FB users can become fans of it. This guide will show you how to create it:

Once you have done this, Facebook will offer you the possibility to make ads your page, or you can simply send a message to your known clients and invite them to become fans.

I suggest creating a fan page for Advertising, then sharing to your friends. You can then keep your fans up-to-date on new happenings and link back to your website. This creates more traffic for your college website and also fans are able to share your links with their friends. So you see, there is a great opportunity for growth if you do it right! Facebook has to be done a certain way to get it do do what you want.
