My internet slows down around 12:00pm every night? - Brandon Weaver - 04-18-2014 01:58 AM

Every night, around 12:00pm Est, my internet slows down significantly. During the day, we have a pretty solid connection, but at night it's either not working or very slow. It usually fluctuates between a 0.23 - 0.19 Mbps download speed. Usually in the morninig it's around 7-15 Any idea why?

In general everyones internet slows down in the evenings because people are home from school/work. In the morning everyone is rushing out and not many are online so speeds are faster. Midnite eastern is only 9pm west coast.

Many reasons for this.

Is the connection DSL, or Cable? If cable, you are sharing the connection with a-lot of other people. As they use the bandwidth the available left is what you use. It is community bandwidth as users soak up the bandwidth, you basically get what is left.

If DSL, you are guaranteed bandwidth as the architecture is designed specifically. Contact the carrier.

Third, some ISP do maintenance of the lines and they could be routing all connections via another route.
Finally, you could be hosting something bad that is consuming your bandwidth that is triggered via specific times.

Ensure your DMZ is not open on your router and check the outgoing logs to determine what traffic os heading out of your modem. This is done by checking the router web page and the logs.
