Deleting the account would probably be the most effective way.

Deleting the a/c is Not the way.
First go to the Settings option and then click Privacy. U will find the other options there and u can edit your choice and manage ur privacy.

facebook has lots of different privacy options, but keep in mind that you cant really make it 100% private - facebook is a social networking site, not a private networking site

set the privacy settings as u want.

Go to your privacy settings and set to "only me' or "friends only".
