It's highly dependent on the competitiveness of the keywords, though I must say being on the 10th page of results is pretty useless, 90% of search clicks occur in the top 10 results, the #1 results gets some 34% of all clicks.
A proper sustainable SEO campaign can take months to gradually grow ranking, some outsider with a quota to meet is more likely to pour on too many low quality backlinks as a means to quickly nudge the needle. A site can be penalized for obvious SEO Spam, Google recently added the Penguin filter which watches for certain rank manipulation tactics.

To monitor the results, you could use a search ranking tool, for example either the free rankchecker for firefox http://www.link-assistant.com/rank-tracker/ to generate a search ranking report for your list of keywords, and monitor your changes in ranking.

You would have to get 10,000 results pages to check your whole list of keywords, Google tends to block automated queries after a while, might have to check 10 keywords at a time, changing IP addresses or waiting between sets.
