Do search engines prioritize blogs more with age? - Accomplish Great Things - 04-20-2014 12:12 AM

I noticed my blog has been gaining traffic since when I first started it last January. More and more search terms on Google have been leading readers to my blog. Is this the general result of publishing more posts or is Google trusting my blog more because its no longer so "new"?

I suppose this is a SEO question and I'd appreciate any insight!

Yes - this is one of factors for ranking. In this video, Matt Cutts states that:

“The difference between a domain that’s six months old verses one year old is really not that big at all.”.
In other words, they do use domain age…but it’s not very important.

A brand new site does have to earn respect, realistically a new site doesn't have much of a following, and because few people are visiting it, there are relatively few links being made to the site, active SEO campaigns have to go easy those first 6 months or so.

Some people buy aged domain names at auctions so they can start with a site that appears to already have age.

The age factor applies to any site, blogs in particular are liked because they are assumed to have regular new content additions, you need to stay on the job to grow search raking.

Older domains do rank better. There's some debate about whether this is because they've had more time to publish more content and get established or whether it's simply because older sites are less likely to be spam sites. I say the latter but yeah older domains are a PR advantage, not the biggest one so you shouldn't worry about it.

Yes, Domain age is most considerable factor in SERPs.

Blog postings are more benefit for website rankings.

As everyone has said, the age of a domain is a ranking factor but it's only one of about 200 and is not the most important. Focus on writing some really great content, content that is useful and people want to link to - that's probably the single most important ranking factor.
