What I want to know Is how do I get them competition and survey things to pop up on my website where if people want to access the content they have to do the surveys and enter the competitions and also do I get paid when people complete them

Those are generally promoting CPA offers, you might search: CPA Surveys, you will find plenty of info.
Getting approved by a CPA network is more difficult that displaying regular ads or affiliate links, assume you will have to pass a telephone interview.
