I really want to start my own business, but I'm not even sure what type of business! How does someone find the best "need" for a new business in their area?

You are the only one that can figure that out as everyone’s abilities, financial situation and knowledge are different. Find an unmet need that is also something that you like to do. Complete a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis and a business plan to prove that the business idea is workable.

Business is a great and risk task, for that you have to do the R&D. Before starting think or question yourself what your interests, on which path do you have good know ledge?, who are the targeted people?, what are ways to increase table strength step by step? what are the do and donot's? observe yourself what is trendy business in the preset niche market? etc....as per your strength choose right one ..
As per your interest you can ask the suggestions or advises.
