Prefer visual ads, not text ads. :-)

Visual or image ads pay more. In some instances you could get paid by someone just viewing the page if there is a video playing which only happens with image ads. The larger, i think the better.

science sites are poor for adsense as technical people tend not to click on the ads...better to create sites for old people who don't know the difference or have shaky mouse hands!
