Are these stuffs merely for advertising purposes only or does it has any other functionality on one's site?

Banner rotators are specifically used for online advertisement. The more you make it beautiful the more catchy it got. And the more audiences be directed to the site you are advertising. Just make sure when you are availing or making one, the graphics should not look annoying, should not be too flashy and should have nice computer graphic display.
