The other day i had to restart my router due to connectivity issues. After that day i have been getting the message "Ip conflict" by windows every 10 or so minutes which then disables my internet. I have restarted my computer many times and used the commands IPCONFIG/release and renew but this only works temporarily. What else can i do to fix this?

you can give static ip address .

Go into the router config and set up a different address range. That'll do it.

For there to be a conflict, two devices must be using the same IP address - your PC and something else.


Restart all the devices in the house that use wifi - including phones, ipods, smart TVs etc.

Some device or gadget has remembered the IP address it was allocated before the router was reset, but the router no longer knows what IPs were previously given out so is issuing addresses that conflict with stored ones.

Restarting each device will force it to request a new IP address from the router and everything should get back in sync again.


The other possibility is if someone has set something to a static IP, but using the address allocated by the router. The router would store the link between the device & that address prior to the reboot, but once it's tables were cleared it would reallocate addresses, first come first served.

If you need something to have a static IP (eg. for game / port forwarding), you need to adjust the DHCP server range in the router so some addresses are never allocated.

eg. use 50 to 220 in the last field of the DHCP IP address range, then start static addresses at 10
(as in 192.168.0.10 or 192.168.1.10, the first three fields being the same as what your router is already using).
