eBay Question ????? - Michael Shkatov - 04-25-2014 05:00 AM

Does eBay take a percentage of your very first sale? If so could you tell me how much they take if I sold an item for $182.00?

eBay charges a final value fee of 10% of total sale. So you would pay $1.82 if item sells.

Ebay always take a fee on every sale. Their seller fee is about 9% of combined sales price + shipping price. When someone pays you with Paypal you are charged about 3% fee.

The fee schedule is different per country and the item category.

Here is the fee calculator for the US market...

Keep in mind that you pay a fee for the ending value, the basic shipping you offered, and a fee to PayPal for accepting your payment. The PayPal fee is 2.9% of the gross sale plus 30 cents per transaction.

I typically tell people 15%, which is often a bit on the high side but not by much. Once you consider the cost of shipping supplies (which in the real world can figure into profit) that is not a conservative figure.

Note also that you can simply log in to eBay, click on the "account" tab and see the amount eBay will be charging you for their part. To view the PayPal amount, simply log into the PayPal transaction. No guessing or calculating needed.
