If you are on someone's site, you don't - those ads are how that web site makes money and lets you see their content for free (without the ads you would pay for your access). If the ads are on a site that you operate, you have two options - either pay someone to host your website or contact management and see if you can get other ads to show up.

NoScript and Adblock Plus.

Both are free add-ons that you download for your browser. These applications also contain "white lists", so you can choose which sites can advertise to you. As another user said, websites obtain much of their revenue from ads, but on the flip site, many of these ads can be malicious, so it's good to protect your computer and browser from exploits.
