yes it is a crime, pretending to be somebody your not.

Yes of course it is against the law What charges can be thrown at you,
(1) theft of copy right material (photo)
(2) impersonation of someone else (Identity theft)

You can also get band off facebook for illegal deception

Absolutely! That's considered "Identity Theft" and you can get into serious trouble depending on your intent. Facebook can also ban you from further use of their services. All the other person needs to do is complain to facebook and/or the police.
