Why is my downloads in Google Chrome slower than others? - miniaturefather563 - 04-27-2014 10:43 PM

Today I was downloading a file which is 644mb, usually if I download something that small in Steam or uTorrent or something, it'll take an hour or two, because it downloads at 300kb/s+. But google chrome's downloading thing says it'll take around 12 hours more or less, and it downloads at around 15kb/s. Any know why? and how to fix it or make it faster

Well uTorrent uses torrenting not downloading. Very different things. Torrenting basically merges several 100 little bits of your file from different sources, where downloading take the whole thing in one go. Downloading is considered to be safer and more reliable but torrenting is insanely faster.

Cheers and Good Luck

In Chrome, click the wrench icon, select "Options" then "Under the hood"....

1)Untick “Predict network actions to improve page load performance.”
Also, check whether any security suite, other software is not hogging your bandwidth.

2)Untick “Use DNS pre-fetching to improve page load performance”

It also depends on where you're downloading from.

If 15 kb/s is as fast as they can upload, that's your cap. A download manager might be able to boost the download speed, if the server allows it. They work similarly to torrents, where the file is split and you download it in segments. The difference to torrents is that it's all coming from the same location, rather than multiple ones.
