Skype question? - Drunkentub844 - 04-27-2014 11:14 PM

If your skype account logs you on automatically when your computer is open, and when you have no wifi, do you appear online or not?
Because a friend of mine has a skype account that logs him on automatically when he turns on his laptop and he is currently far away from me and he told me he has no wifi but he appears online on skype so i was wondering if it it just cause his laptop is turned on or if he can actually receive my messages?

I think your friend is logged in from a mobile device, that's why he appears online on skype. Or maybe someone knows his password!

For Skype to show you as being online, three things must all be true:

1) The computer is on and running the Skype program.
2) It has a working Internet connection.
3) Skype is set to show you as being online.

If the computer is using a WiFi connection to reach the Internet, and the WiFi is not connected, then you will not be online.

You should note that the Skype program has to notify the Skype server world that you are there. If you lose the connection to the Internet it can take several minutes before you are missed and will no longer appear to be online. For a short time you might appear online to others when you are no longer really there.

I hope this helps.
