How con I receive broadcast tv on my computer monitor? - Travis M - 04-27-2014 11:34 PM

I am being charged almost $50.00 per month by my cable company for broadcast tv. I have an old analog tv, so I would like to know if there is anyway to receive tv on my pc monitor? I have a cable internet connection with wifi included, and a router.

Hi There,

There are many devices to allow watching TV on your computer or even just the monitor (computer not even turned on).

Here is one type that uses a usb TV tuner for your computer (you can even record to hard drive on some of these).http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/prods_hvr_external.html

Here is one at Amazon that uses the monitor only. Cost $90-

Of course you will need some sort of antenna to pick up the over the air signals.
I would recommend getting an amplified one for best results

A friend has a radio shack amplified (desktop) antenna in the Denver area and gets about 26 channels.

He had the cable company disconnect his cable and is saving money.
Cable costs have been skyrocketing, commercials are getting longer, louder and more frequent. We are paying for all of this.

Hope this helps,
Al
