Writers: This or That? - Joss - 10-15-2012 09:04 PM

You HAVE to choose one and it can ONLY be one. Big Grin

Let's say a publisher likes your book, but goes over promotion with you. Your agent is negotiating and the publisher won't sign you unless you agree to some type of promotion and/or marketing, which will be written in the contract. Which of these would you rather do as part of your promotion or marketing?

1) Twitter or Facebook account?

2) Blog tour or normal city-to-city tour?

3) Signing or reading? [not both this time]

4) Signing/reading in a bookstore or coffee shop?

5) Signing from your home (publisher sends you blank pages to sign to add to book at printing) or signing in public?

6) Local news interview or local newspaper interview?

7) Book tour with other authors or book tour alone?

8) Hardcover only or paperback only? [yep, they've given generously given you this choice, too!]

9) Have final say in cover design or final say in title? [can't be overruled by publisher]

10) Telephone interview or interview where they email you the questions?

- Jezebel - 10-15-2012 09:13 PM

1) twitter. they could "follow" the book
2) city-to-city; i've always wanted to do this!
3) signing; again, i've always wanted to do it
4) reading in a bookstore
5) public
6) news. i feel like nobody reads the paper
7) other authors.
8) paperback, they're cheaper, thus people are more likely to buy it
9) title.
10) email the questions. gives me more time to think

- Erraticsun475 - 10-15-2012 09:13 PM

1.) Facebook account. I think Twitter is lame.
2.) Blog tour. I hate traveling.
3.) Signing. I sound so weird when I read aloud.
4.) Bookstore. When I'm done, I could buy books for me to read! ^.^
5.) Home. Comfort of my own home.
6.) Local news interview. That way, no one could edit it.
7.) Other authors. It would be great to bond with others in the busniess.
8.) Paperback.
9.) Cover design.
10.) Email the questions then I answer them with a video of some sort! Sounds fun!

What about you, Joss? What would you choose? Big Grin

1)Twitter. I feel it get better publicity.
2) City-to-City tour. Those sound like fun!
3)Signing. They can read the book on their own.
4)Bookstore. I'm not a big fan of the smell of coffee...
5)Signing in public, of course.
6)local news for sure!
7)...depends who the other authors are.
8)hardcover ftw
9)Title. I can get over the cover being weird, but the title sometimes makes it or breaks it for some people.
10)E-mail. That way I get to think before I say. ha ha ha.

1) Facebook, more to do on there for the book.

2) City-to-city tour, sounds fun and exciting

3) Signing, you could meet fans ^^

4) A bookstore. You'd probably get the right audience you'd expect seeing as it is a bookstore.

5) Signing in public. Like I said, it would be nice to meet fans.

6) Local news interview. Let's be honest, who reads the newspaper anymore?

7) Book tour with other authors, that way things could stay fun and fresh.

8) Hardcover only. They're more expensive.

9) Final say in cover design. Cover designs are what usually catch my eye, not the title.

10) Interview when they email you the questions. Email seems easier.

- Roadwalker - 10-15-2012 09:13 PM

1) Twitter or Facebook account? I already have FB so that

2) Blog tour or normal city-to-city tour? I already blog, but I would tour some cities

3) Signing or reading? [not both this time] signing

4) Signing/reading in a bookstore or coffee shop? coffee shop

5) Signing from your home (publisher sends you blank pages to sign to add to book at printing) or signing in public? I would rather stay at home

6) Local news interview or local newspaper interview? Newspaper

7) Book tour with other authors or book tour alone? Alone

8) Hardcover only or paperback only? [yep, they've given generously given you this choice, too!] Paperback

9) Have final say in cover design or final say in title? [can't be overruled by publisher] Yes, that would be good
10) Telephone interview or interview where they email you the questions? I prefer a thumb screw to talking on the phone, so e-mail

- Gentlemenchicken645 - 10-15-2012 09:13 PM

1) I'd have a Facebook account with my pen name. I already know how Facebook works since I have one.

2) I'd do the normal city-to-city tour. I hate writing blogs.

3) Signing. Reading means I'd actually sit there and read to people, doesn't it? I hate reading aloud. Especially to strangers.

4) Signing/reading in a bookstore. They'd be able to buy my book right away if they were in a bookstore. They might forgot they wanted my book if they have to leave the store and go to a bookstore.

5) Signing in public. Sometimes people buy a book and get in line just because the author is there. Ups the sales, I'd say.

6) Local news interview. Seems like more people watch the news than read the paper.

7) Book tour with other authors. I'd prefer alone but this way the fans of those books might try to read and buy my book just because I'm traveling and signing with the author they like.

8) Paperback only. Hardcover looks better but paperbacks are better to carry around and actually read. At least, that's my opinion.

9) Have final say in cover design. That was a tough one, but I really have an image in mind for the cover. And I want my brother to do it for me.

10) An interview where they email me the questions. I rather not talk. lol

- Vengeful Strumpet - 10-15-2012 09:13 PM

1) Twitter or Facebook account?
I only know how to use Facebook, so...Facebook.

2) Blog tour or normal city-to-city tour?
City to city.

3) Signing or reading? [not both this time]
Signing.

4) Signing/reading in a bookstore or coffee shop?
A bookstore, seems more relevant. Plus the smell of coffee makes me want to vomit.

5) Signing from your home (publisher sends you blank pages to sign to add to book at printing) or
signing in public?
Public

6) Local news interview or local newspaper interview?
Although I'd rather do newspaper, I'd do news interview. I think you'd get more of an audience.

7) Book tour with other authors or book tour alone?
With other authors.

8) Hardcover only or paperback only? [yep, they've given generously given you this choice, too!]
Paperback only.

9) Have final say in cover design or final say in title? [can't be overruled by publisher]
I'll go for the title.

10) Telephone interview or interview where they email you the questions?
Email me the questions. I'm not very good at thinking on my feet, so I'd rather think and articulate myself properly. Get me on a phone and all I'd say is 'uhhhh...I dunno, actually...'
