What is with the random people on twitter mentioning me and sending weird looking links? - Coco - 10-15-2012 09:05 PM

Usually after I tweet or do something on twitter there will be this random mention from someone i'm not following and their not following me. The tweets usually don't say anything but they have my twitter name and a link that doesn't look like a real link. I was wondering if they were hacking things or virus' because I really have no idea.

Yupp they're spam accounts. The links they post usually carry virus' and they usually track down one word. For example, 'weight'
If someone was posting about weight loss or something along those lines, they'll tweet back with a great link for weight loss that's just a virus. Smile

Beware of such links, they may be virulent links.
Never ever ever click on such links.
If you will click , you may risk your browsing data may be hacked.
Basically what happens is that , whenever you visit a site, that site gets a lot of information about you through the request which you send, this includes the browser you are using, the OS you are using, any custom parameters and cookie data.
These many data is helpful for hackers to attack you and steal your identity. so beware.

That's spam or boot. They usually set a key word then people who wrote that key word will get mention from that spam. Just ignore and don't click the link, it might be web/blog promo or the worst can be a virus, etc. And so with DM with link from unknown.
