Do you need a special electronic device in order to Twitter? - plattersby - 10-15-2012 09:05 PM

From all I've seen and heard, it appears that using Twitter is virtually the same thing as texting, and is very close to being the same as emailing. So I'm wondering what the point is. Can you Twitter on devices we already own, or do we need to buy something new?
(And, if we do need a new device, why should we get one if texting and emailing already accomplish the same purpose?)
edit to GWilakers: As if we NEEDED any MORE people texting and emailing us! Geesh!

You don't need anything special to use Twitter, just SMS text messages from your phone or entering a short message at your personal Twitter page, though there is software designed to use Twitter as well.

Twitter is more, and less, than email. When you post a Twitter message, you're putting it online for anyone who cares to read it (privacy and direct messaging are optional). Fans and friends can subscribe to your Twitter feed and automatically get your inane chatter sent directly to their phones. This means you only have to send one message to reach a few hundred people.

This has been put to good use by news organizations and dim-witted celebrities, as well as small groups who just want an easy way to chat.

We will not share all our updates in SMS and Emails. Twitter is a medium using which you can update your status to friends and families. There is no need for any special device to use twitter.
