Making a facebook...HELP!? - kate - 04-28-2014 01:17 AM

My mom is helping me make a facebook tonight, but she's not convinced I can have one yet.

1. when making one, how can my mom see the privacy and security settings and stuff before making one.

2. What other sites should I have her look at.

There really isn't a way to look at the privacy and security settings BEFORE you make a Facebook. But Facebook is a VERY SECURE website. Its almost impossible for anyone to find out your personal information if you don't want them to. Just be careful who you add as a friend. There is also this thing called a limited profile. Let's say you add someone whom you don't know that well, you can place that person on limited profile. Limited profile limits the content that the person can see. You can pick and choose what exactly you want to let them on see your profile. You can do this with anyone. Also, for more privacy you can make the settings so that no one can search for you and no one can add you. This makes it safer for YOU so YOU are the one doing all the searching and adding. So no unwanted friend requests will arrive and no one else can find out about your facebook unless you guys are friends. Make a facebook first and read through all the privacy settings and such. Its very simple, safe and secure.

when u make your facebook u can change ur privacy settings and make ur profile private which means that only ur friends can view ur profile.

Before you make one, read through the privacy policy with her. And just to convince her that it is safe, have her create her own account and look at the settings. You can also delete your account after creating it if you want to.
BTW, I'm trying to convince my parents to let me have one. Let me know how you convinced your mom. Check out my question, too.

Here is a link to Facebook's Privacy policy:
http://www.facebook.com/policy.php

I would recommend FB over MySpace, Bebo, hi5, etc, as there seem to be far more restrictions and securities in place.
