they use technology to create and manipulate the mind and create a persons life according to what they think is best and upon there own judgement since they have no authority above them only others who shell out the cash for destroying lives and bad behavior perverse anti social destructive behaviors even allowing people to believe there is some good purpose to it .......its more then that but we will stick with this answer

Well if by "peer groups" you mean society, most of our society is controlled by the media. The media tells people what to do, what to say, what to wear and this happens quite often sadly, and then society tells individuals that they should do the stuff media says not openly of course, they don't realize it, but they might treat someone and make them an outcast for not acting like they do. So the media is ultimately the driving force behind our society.
