If Facebook owns the photos/videos that people upload, what about companies like Disney and AMC? They can't own Mickey Mouse or The Governor.

Not even a little.
FB does not own and does not WANT to own the copyright of the stuff its members upload. They only need a LICENSE, which is in the terms of use. The copyright owners continue to have the exclusive right to sue people who illegally copy, duplicate, distribute and perform their stuff in public without permission.
Disney and AMC own the original copyrights of everything ever created by any of their employees and for any materials for which they have purchased by the copyrights.
