Hello..What you need is a wireless router and a wireless card for the desktop..i assume that the laptop has a card built in..most newer ones do..if not then you need a card for the laptop..total cost is under 180 bucks..installation is not to bad..detailed instructions come with the equipment..Good luck..

2 things , If your internet has a Ethernet adapter get a router and a wireless card for your desktop in your bedroom .
This way you can connect all 3 at the same time and also can share files between the pcs on your network. The laptop most probably has a wireless adapter already. Check your desktop to see if it has wireless adapter. If the rooms are closed less than 50 ft you can get a cheap setup . I have about 50 ft from router to pcs , i connect 4 pcs and 2 gaming systems and a phone wireless. With a Belkin "50 dollar router" And one of my desktop uses a cheap wireless drive 20 dollars it runs at 56mbs and seems pretty stable.

A wireless router would allow you to access the Internet on both PC. However, you will need to ensure that either one of laptop or desktop has the wireless card in order to ensure that it will bridge the Internet connection that will be available on your wireless router. The current cable connection that you have will be connected on the wireless router. Then connect the PC that doesn't have a wireless card into the router physically using a cable. On the router settings(firewall) allow the PC that has the wireless card to get Internet access.
