I am looking into getting an english mastiff but before I do I've been doing some research on the breed. Everything seems to fit with what I want but I have read that english mastiffs tend to be territorially aggressive. I live by a state park so I want to be able to take him/her there and I also want to be able to take my dog to a dog park. I don't want a dog that has a tendency to be socially or territorially aggressive. I want the opinion of those that have experience with english mastiffs. Are they aggressive dogs or should I ignore the information that says they are and go with the it's all in how you train them mentality?

Absolutely every one I've ever seen has been laid back and very sloppy.
Why not find a Mastiff group on facebook or contact people within the breed and get some straight answers from people that know them very well.
Some facebook groups and forums have people that have been in the breed for years and years.

They can be. Make sure you buy from a reputable breeder and socialize your puppy well.

I looked it up to and they are aggressive to dogs of the same sex and other animals. They are also pretty expensive. If you don't want a territorial dog or aggressive one then I'd suggest you get a golden retriever or lab.

Amber never listen to stereotype articles on people or animals, my son owns a mastiff it's huge it's a gentle giant but a great guard at night. My son goes on long walks with his dog taking their rations with him the dog loves to amble alongside enjoying the walks and listening to my son chatting away to him. My son has a family but the mastiff is a companion and he likes hiking and the dog loves the long treks.
The dog loves my son's children he's very protective towards them other than that he's just a big soppy dog. The dog is English because we live in the UK in my view Mastiffs are just that whatever country they hail from. My son would not take hid dog to socialise in any park he trusts his dog but not other dogs or their owners. His dog is not a fighting dog it's gentle and he is going to stay that way.

Mastiffs are watchdogs and they should stand up if you are threatened, but they aren't supposed to be aggressive.
