While I was downloading SKYPE the Google Chrome also got downloaded ? If I remove Google Chrome can I still use SKYPE ?

Don't need it. Dump it. Skype runs just fine without it.

Google Chrome is not necessary.
It's just one of those agreements companies make with each other to scratch each other's backs. It's like there's this anti-virus company I know of that, unless you very expressly tell it NOT to, will install a Yahoo Search Bar on your browser.
Same thing. Google made some kind of agreement with Skype, and they're probably doing something for Skype in exchange.

Skype works fine with out Google Chrome. But Chrome is ok too.
