should an amateur photographer with no portfolio make a facebook page? - anonymous - 10-15-2012 09:09 PM

I am really interested in photography, but have no way of gaining a potential portfolio, and no way of advertisement. I have, however, been uploading some pictures onto tumblr, but i only have 1 follower, and that is my other blog D:

Should i make a facebook page, or is it still too early?

I think I'm in the same position as you are and I think you'll be better off joining flickr which is kind of like a Facebook but for photographers I guess you could say. Their slogan is 'Share your life in photos' I think you will have better luck, more support and more followers. :] Good Luck

Judging from what I see on FB, a lot of them do.
No harm in sharing your stuff on FB. There is a lot of mediocre work there from "professionals", though, and I am not sure how many people will find you. If you have oodles of FB friends you may get some exposure there.

Only join Facebook when you are professional, or atleast take portraits for people. No one is going to like your photos otherwise, no offense.

Tumblr isn't a good choice either. It's for blogging, not photography. The only photographers there are sappy teen photographers, that take cliche photos.

Flickr is definitely the choice. There are photographers from beginner to professional. Most people are nice enough to comment on their photos, if you do to theirs. It's all photographers as well, not bloggers or social networkers.
