How much should this website cost to make? - Smallcatin - 04-28-2014 03:46 AM

A friend of mine was asked to create a website. He's getting paid ~700 dollars but the website is huge and he's been working on it for about five months now. The person who asked him to make it asked him to also upload all of the products onto the website. I feel like he's getting jipped a major amount of money.

Any thoughts..?

Your friend is free to negotiate his contract. If he feels the price is too low, don't sign the contract.

The $700 figure is typical of a 5 page or less website in which the complexity is low. The problem your friend is encountering is one of two tings, both his fault:
1) Scope Creep - This means that the client keep throwing new requirements at your friend and your friend has not the guts, strength, and/or contract to rely on for pushing back to the client with a Change Order.
2) Incompetence - Your friend is over his head, lacking the skills to either do the coding, use readily available tools that will pretty much code on his behalf, or to gather requirements (including documenting what will be done with CLIENT SIGN-OFF of those requirements).

this is a horrible situation that your friend should renegotiate or cut his losses on!

however it is a very normal situation if you read some of the CL ads for web designers. people demand super high skilled people but want to pay only slave wages and make them come to their office so they can steal their secrets, get training for free and get other services for free.
