put the name in google and see what pops up
also, consider an advanced search by looking at phone books for the cities of interest?

Living people have privacy rights so everyone 'details' are not available on or off line for people to 'find'....so unless they are careless with their information or advert themselves you will not find them........ many companies collect and sell personal information fro those that carelessly don't guard their privacy, so people search websites, and online phone books which mainly you pay for as it is a business and those who advertise their details and lifestyle, you will find in social media, which is one of the biggest harvesters of peoples information which also sell on this data, which is how they make lots of profit while offering 'free' access to enable them to gather more......... http://familytimeline.webs.com/adoptionlivingrelations.htm

In all cases, looking for Ralph Kablonski in Turlock will be easier than looking for John Smith in Chicago.
Ancestry.com and Genforum.com each have thousands of query boards devoted to surnames. Both are free, both require registration, neither spam you. You could post on both. If your LLR is interested in genealogy he/she might see it.

usually that's done within the family as if you went to school with them then a school pal would know the answer. or a relative will know how to reach someone if they are a long lost relative. Usually more than one person in a family line is searching family so they may know and you'd find those kinds of connections on ancestry.com or familysearch.org in their blogs or you'd leave a message for someone to get back to you. Other than that you'd have to keep researching and checking obituaries to find someone they're related to.
I tried to do that once on facebook and facebook didn't like it, nor did the family members I contacted like that approach.
